太平洋時間7日下午5點，大陸與美國國家領導人在加州陽光莊園舉行領袖高峰會，美國總統歐巴馬在致詞中對大陸國家主席習近平表示，「歡迎中國繼續和平崛起成為世界大國，事實上，中國繼續走在成功的道路上符合美國的利益。」雙方均呼籲建立共同的網路安全規則。
歐巴馬在7分鐘的致辭中表示，「一個和平、穩定、繁榮的中國不僅有利於中國，也有利於世界和美國。作為世界最大的兩個經濟體，兩國會有激烈的競爭，但同時也面臨全方位的挑戰，需要兩國合作。比如在北韓核問題與核不擴散問題上加強合作；在經濟上美國希望各國按規則行事，有自由公平的貿易。」
針對近來美中針鋒相對的網路安全問題，歐巴馬強調，「網路安全和知識財產權保護問題上，兩國能合作應對。」
習近平也表示，「中美必須嚴密關注網路安全問題，並研究方法來解決。」
因應「歐習會」登場，中華民國外交部長林永樂一早赴外交部坐鎮指揮；他說，「相信美方會信守承諾，遵守台灣關係法。」
