一張疑似是大陸新型殲轟-7戰鬥轟炸機的照片近日在軍事網站曝光，大陸網友認為這是殲轟-7的改良型，稱之殲轟-7B。

根據大陸官方媒體人民日報旗下的環球網報導，殲轟-7B已於2012年8月成功首飛，它與殲轟-7A外形變化不大，推測可能的改進項目有增加受油管、航電設備與發動機進行升級，同時增強了機身結構，以掛裝大型反艦飛彈。

報導稱，從照片中可以看到，這架正在進行試驗的飛豹戰鬥機外表呈現黃綠色，因此網友與大陸軍事專家認為，改進後的殲轟-7機身大量採用了複合材料。

1974年，大陸與越南爆發的海戰中，暴露了解放軍海軍航空兵缺乏長程對海打擊能力，因此產生研發攻擊機的需求。新攻擊機要求具有良好的飛行性能、面對現代防空武器有較強的戰場存活率、在戰術縱深內完成轟炸任務，並能攜帶核彈進行和打擊，性能要達到當時歐洲龍捲風(Tornado)戰機的性能。

殲轟-7(JH-7，大陸稱為飛豹)因而誕生。殲轟-7在1988年進行首度試飛、1998年在珠海航空展首度亮相，改良型A於2004年公開亮相。
