大甲草蓆帽多元編織　阿嬤郭素月手藝了得

以手工技藝編織的大甲草蓆帽，精細又實用而享譽國內外，致每有觀光團到大甲匠師的故鄉時都會前往西勢愛鄉協會，參觀七十四歲的郭素月編織及DIY嚐試編織技藝，對提升大甲草蓆帽的價值觀，功更不可沒。

大甲草蓆帽之藺草編業名列台灣最大手工藝之一，旺盛時期，足足有八十萬人口參與，在大甲、苑裡等地區，農閒最常見景況，便是一大群人坐在門檻、板凳上，每個人忙著編織帽蓆，曬穀場上曬的是藺草而成為工業品及農家最好副業。

家住大甲鎮西岐里的郭素月，從小耳濡目染，左鄰右舍婦女們聚集一起在編織草帽蓆中學了編織手藝。因大甲藺草所編的草帽蓆，具有吸濕除濕及脫臭殺菌功能，在日據時期，是日本人送禮最高尚禮品，婦女每編完成一件就被收購，四十年前國內工商業逐漸發達，大甲草蓆帽因工資低，會編織的婦女紛轉行到工廠， 造成藺草業一厥不振，遂為夕陽傳統手藝。

多年來政府欲挽救傳統業計劃，卻因編織上勞力多、工資少，推動上很難突破。郭素月因懷念鄉土的「根」，十年前組成西勢愛鄉協會，傳授草蓆草帽的編織技巧，並深入社區、學校、義務指導編織，在圖案設計上亦做生活上多元化使用之創作，成果非凡，熱愛鄉土文化極有貢獻。
