2001年，塔利班政權不理會聯合國教科文組織及外國非政府組織的反對，頒令說巴米揚大佛雕像是崇拜偶像的行為，以炸藥及坦克炮火摧毀這座古蹟。在破壞行動期間，塔利班的信息部長昆德拉圖拉赫·賈馬爾（Qudratullah Jamal）嘆道：「破壞工作並非如人們所想般容易，你不能以炮轟推倒那些佛像，因為它們是鑿入山崖內；它們牢牢地連接山嶺。」2001年3月，兩尊大佛在經過近一個月的猛烈炮轟下，最後被炸藥摧毀。

【綜合報導】挪威斯瓦爾巴群島的冰川奇觀很受遊客歡迎，但遊客的到臨，令「原住民」北極熊不太高興。
有遊客最近乘船到當地觀光時，拍到一隻北極熊，將熊爪放在船尾，整個站了起來，似乎是想將船推離牠的領域。
現時大約有3,000隻瀕臨絕種的北極熊，住在斯瓦爾巴群島。島嶼面積約63,000平方公里，六成五的面積受保護，設有三個自然保護區。每年吸引不少遊客到來，觀看北極熊、北極馴鹿、獨角鯨等稀有動物。
