國聯外卡驟死戰，海盜靠著Francisco Liriano先發7局失1分好投，搭配捕手Russell Martin雙響砲演出，最終以6比2擊敗紅人，這也是海盜自1992年後，首度嘗到季後賽滋味。
海盜在2局下率先有進展，重砲手Marlon Byrd以及Martin，都從紅人先發Johnny Cueto手中，敲出陽春全壘打，幫助海盜取得2比0領先。
3局下，海盜攻勢再起，首位上場打擊的Andrew McCutchen敲安上壘，再靠著隊友推進以及失誤，一口氣站上三壘壘包，隨後Pedro Alvarez敲出中外野高飛犧牲打，幫助海盜在下一城。
前3個半局，計分板上掛了3顆鴨蛋的紅人，總算在第4局有所突破，秋信守遭到觸身球上壘，接著上場的Ryan Ludwick擊出安打，兩出局後，Jay Bruce掌握機會擊出一壘安打，紅人追到1比3。
不過，海盜在4局下，一出局、滿壘時，Marlon Byrd敲出一顆內野滾地球，Brandon Phillips處理上出現瑕疵，錯失雙殺機會，讓海盜領先來到5比1。
Cueto這場比賽先發3.1局，被敲出7支安打，1保送，沒有投出三振，失4分有3分為自責分，反觀，海盜先發Liriano主投7局，1保送、5三振，僅失1分。 (接下一頁)
