民進黨主席蘇貞昌表達「承認中華民國」，強調民進黨也承認，如果認為國家的名字不好，由民主決定。台灣獨立建國聯盟（簡稱台獨聯盟）30日晚間發表聲明指出，台灣是處在「主權不完整、建國未完成的狀態」，努力完成建立一個完整的「主權獨立」國家，才能阻止國民黨的賣台及中國共產黨的侵台野心。
台獨聯盟主席陳南天表示，國際上承認「中華民國」是主權獨立的國家非常稀少，而美國的「台灣關係法」是屬於美國國內法，對象是台灣人民「People of Taiwan」而非「中華民國」政府，當然不是正常的國與國之間的協防條約。
他說，這次菲律賓的槍殺台灣漁民事件，菲國是向台灣人民道歉，而非對中華民國政府。
陳南天強調，台灣參加國際組織的名稱，更是慘不忍睹；「中華台北」在世界地圖上既找不到，使用時還需經過毫不相干的「中華人民共和國」同意。他說，「這絕非是一個主權獨立的國家會有的現象。」
陳南天指出，90年代經過台灣人民的努力，台灣已有選舉的自由；雖然是在國民黨黨產陰影下的不平等條件的選舉，但台灣已漸俱獨立政治個体的雛形，而且在2000年政黨輪替後，正朝向「正常化國家」邁進。
陳南天認為，在國民黨再次統治下，台灣漸漸被它用各種手段轉送給「中華人民共和國」。
他說，唯有正視、面對獨立建國的艱難，努力完成建立一個完整的「主權獨立」國家，才能阻止國民黨的賣台及中國共產黨的侵台野心。
