印度對企業較為友善的在野黨「人民黨(Bharatiya Janata Party, BJP)」在過去一個月於多個重要省份舉行的地方議會改選中贏得壓倒性勝利，激勵印度股市寫下史上新高、而盧比相對於美元更創下兩個月的新高紀錄。
嘉實XQ全球贏家系統報價顯示，截至9日下午3時59分(GMT+8)為止，印度SENSEX指數勁揚1.56%(327.84點)，報21,324.37點；盤中高點(21,483.74點)寫下史上新高紀錄。美元兌印度盧比9日開盤迄今最低一度貶至60.970，創10月18日以來盤中新低。
彭博社、Thomson Reuters 9日報導，印度選舉委員會(Election Commission of India)指出，人民黨在新德里、中央邦(Madhya Pradesh)、恰蒂斯加爾邦(Chhattisgarh)的地方選舉中皆贏得勝利。
人民黨勝選地區的人口數約佔全印度12億人的1/6，預料可望一鼓作氣在明(2014)年5月全國國會改選中再度獲勝，結束國大黨(Congress party)長達10年之久的執政生涯，而人民黨籍的古茶拉底(Gujarat)省省長莫迪(Narendra Modi)也將坐上總理寶座。
國大黨最近為了提振經濟而採取了不少改革措施(例如吸引外資投入等等)，但市場仍希望政府推出更多經濟振興方案。本次地方選舉是印度兩大黨在全國國會改選前最後一次測試民意的機會。
彭博社報導，高盛曾在11月5日將印度股市的投資評等由原本的「減碼」調高至「市場權值」，認為在野黨將在地方選舉中贏得勝利，進而帶動投資升溫。
