Digitimes Research: Samsung may experience in-house chipset supply shortage in 2013
Eric Lin, DIGITIMES Research, Taipei [Monday 3 June 2013]
South Korea-based Samsung Electronics is not just an industry leader in the global smartphone market, it is also aggressive in promoting in-house processors to other brands. In addition to the development of end market products, Samsung has control over the technology of in-house processors to ensure total control over the supply chain.
In 2012, Samsung consumed more than 60 million in-house processors for in-house end products. In the first quarter of 2013, Samsung has adopted 25 million units of in-house processors and close to 70% were Exynos 4412 for high-end products. However, the firm may see a shortage of chipset supply in 2013 hence the total adoption may be flat compared to 2012, according to Digitimes Research.
