非洲中部多年戰亂、無法紀助長盜獵，也正威脅非洲森林象，今年三月華盛頓公約組織會議上提出的一份報告指出，現在已有三分之二非洲森林象命喪盜獵者之手。四月底倉皇逃離中非共和國的生物學家圖卡洛（Andrea Turkalo）得知消息，盜獵者五月八日在德贊加─恩多基國家公園（Dzanga-Ndoki National Park）內一處被稱為「大象村」（Dzanga Bai）鹽沼地，一天內就屠殺廿六頭大象，其中四頭是幼象。
