『貓王』艾維斯·普利斯萊1957年12月20日接到入伍通知，從搖滾巨星變成普通一兵。在美國陸軍服役的兩年裡，他刻苦訓練，嚴格要求自己，一時成為美國青年的楷模。時逢『貓王』從軍45周年之際，美國媒體重提那段歷史，依然津津有味。

『三軍打起明星爭奪戰』

據新華網報導，1953年1月，還在上高中的普普利斯萊剛滿18歲，就在孟菲斯徵兵委員會註冊。按照當時美國的徵兵法，年滿18歲、身體健康的年輕人都有義務服兩年兵役，然後再服四年預備役。高中畢業後，普利斯萊就進入了演藝圈。到1956年時，他已經是家喻戶曉的音樂和電影雙棲巨星了。

1957年初，普利斯萊接受了陸軍徵兵體檢。孟菲斯徵兵委員會隨即舉行新聞發布會，稱普利斯萊有可能於當年年底應徵入伍。聽到這個消息，美國海軍和空軍都打起這位巨星的主意。海軍提出可以專門為他成立一個經過特別訓練的『艾維斯·普利斯萊連』，而空軍則想讓他在各徵兵中心巡迴，吸引年輕人參加空軍。但普利斯萊謝絕了這些邀請——他不想得到任何特殊待遇。

但是接到入伍通知後，普利斯萊卻不能馬上向陸軍報到，因為他當時正在拍攝電影《春光普照》。他寫信給孟菲斯徵兵委員會請求延期，後者同意他推遲到1958年3月底報到。雖然是暫時的『告別演出』，普利斯萊一點兒也沒馬虎。《春光普照》於1958年6月公映，被影評人稱為『貓王』演技最好的影片之一。

剃『陸軍頭』驚動了美國總統

1958年3月24日，普利斯萊正式加入美國陸軍，編號53310761。他和戰友一起來到阿肯色州的沙菲堡兵營，準備接受新兵訓練。新兵入伍要過的第一關就是理髮。當時普利斯萊已經留起標誌性的向後梳的髮型和大鬢角，而陸軍新兵則要統一剃成『青皮』。一些粉絲為了讓他保留髮型，甚至給總統寫信求情。蒙大拿州的三個女孩兒就寫信給艾森豪總統，請求『刀下留髮』。她們在信中自稱『普利斯萊的情人』，說『把普利斯萊送到陸軍已經夠糟糕的了，如果你剪掉他的鬢角，我們就不活了！』

普利斯萊本人卻沒有對頭髮表現出絲毫留戀。理髮當天陸軍新聞官湯姆·帕克上校還安排眾多記者到場，讓這次『貓王頭上動刀』成為有史以來最吸引眼球的理髮。理完髮，普利斯萊按標準支付了65美分，還打趣地對圍觀的記者說『（頭髮）今日在，明日去』。他的這句話日後經常被護髮產品生產商引用。他的頭髮也『價值連城』，在2009年英國的一場拍賣會上，『貓王』的一根頭髮賣到1750美元。

『好兵普利斯萊』

新兵訓練結束後，普利斯萊被分配到第2裝甲師接受坦克兵訓練。這是美國陸軍的一個王牌部隊，有『車輪上的地獄』之稱，著名的巴頓將軍曾擔任過它的指揮官。在為期10周的訓練中，普利斯萊掌握了M-48『巴頓』主戰坦克的駕駛、裝彈和射擊技術，成為一名合格的坦克手。在談到當兵與拍電影有什麼區別時，他這樣回答：『其實差不多，都得一早5時起床，6時趕到工作場所。唯一的不同是拍電影有專車接送。』

此後普利斯萊又被分配到第3裝甲師，1958年9月起派駐德國弗雷德堡。該師有『矛頭』的綽號，口號是『要嘛勝利要嘛死亡』。普利斯萊被分配在第32裝甲團第1營C連偵察排。他認真參加各種訓練和演習，因為不想讓別人以為他受到特別關照。他曾對美國『武裝部隊廣播電台和電視台』的記者說：『我知道大家都等著看我笑話，以這種或那種形式出醜，認為我堅持不下來。於是我竭盡全力想證明他們錯了。我不僅證明給大家看，也給我自己看。』駐德期間，普利斯萊還因為槍法准得到過獎章。

『貓王』給弗雷德堡當地人留下了美好回憶。1959年，他邂逅一名15歲的當地女孩西格麗特·舒爾茨。他把自己的軍帽給她戴，與她合影並吻了她的臉，還送給她一枝玫瑰。激動不已的西格麗特一周都沒洗臉，還把花瓣壓乾保存起來。同一年在朋友的介紹下，普利斯萊還結識了駐扎在德國的一名美國空軍上校的女兒普莉西拉·貝奧柳，當年她只有14歲。兩人1967年5月1日結婚，1973年離婚。

1960年2月普利斯萊晉升為中士。此後他結束了在德國的駐扎回到美國，1960年3月退伍，退伍費為109.54美元。短短兩年的軍旅生涯讓他獲益良多，不僅收獲愛情，在事業上也長足進步。1960年他退伍後拍攝首部電影《從軍樂》，電影原聲帶就迅速攀升到冠軍寶座，停留榜中長達111周之久，是他所有專輯中在排行榜上『最長壽』的。更重要的是，『貓王』沒有因為巨星身份躲避兵役或海外服役，被媒體奉為『美國年輕人的楷模』。他在陸軍接種脊髓灰質炎疫苗的形象經電視在全國播放後，美國人的接種率從2%飆升到他退伍那年的85%！
