亞馬遜執行長貝佐斯 個人名義買下華盛頓郵報

美國媒體報導，美國知名電子商務公司「亞馬遜」的執行長「貝佐斯」，已經決定，以兩億五千萬美元，合台幣約七十五億的價格，收購「華盛頓郵報」。這項交易，震驚了美國媒體界（葉柏毅報導）

據報導，貝佐斯是以個人名義買下「華盛頓郵報」，與亞馬遜公司無關，這項交易震撼了美國媒體界。華盛頓郵報最為人所知的，就是它揭發「水門事件」，與今年五月，揭露美國國家安全局的監控計畫等等。

即使如此，華郵仍然不敵報業與傳統媒體，在網路時代所面臨到的重大經營挑戰。長期經營華盛頓郵報的葛蘭姆家族後代，華郵執行長「唐諾‧葛蘭姆」表示，華郵原本一直在掙扎求生，但當貝佐斯表達出對華郵的興趣時，他認為，以貝佐斯的經營長才，與亞馬遜的傑出成就，可以放心把華郵交給貝佐斯。

貝佐斯則表示，他高度認知到華郵的重要性，他同時也強調，他不敢說他有什麼行得通的計畫，不過他確定，挽救華郵，需要一股「實驗的精神」。貝佐斯承諾，他接掌華郵之後，不會做任何激進的改變，華郵不需要改變新聞風格，也仍然會對讀者負責，不會追求任何私人利益。

揭發水門案 華郵威震美國首都

（法新社華盛頓5日電） 今天宣布賣給亞馬遜創辦人貝佐斯的華盛頓郵報，以美國政治菁英家中必備報紙著稱，在報業史上占有一席之地，包括「水門案」在內，20世紀幾大獨家都是華郵記者的傑作。

最近美國國家安全局承包商前雇員史諾登（EdwardSnowden）意圖揭發美國監控體系細節時，華郵（TheWashington Post）也是他接觸的兩家國際媒體之一。

華郵最為人所知的，或許就是1970年代揭發「水門案」的報導。當時還名不見經傳的伍德華（BobWoodward）與柏恩斯坦（Carl Bernstein）針對民主黨全國代表大會（Democratic National Convention）總部遭侵入一事，撰寫一系列調查報導。

此案導致時任總統的尼克森等大咖被迫辭職，由於事發大樓當時是水門飯店（Watergate Hotel），這宗醜聞因此被稱為「水門案」。

伍德華與柏恩斯坦後來都因水門案報導贏得普立茲獎，當時他們透過匿名消息來源，揭發聯邦調查局（FBI）、司法部、中央情報局（CIA）、白宮高層涉及入侵民主黨總部，還企圖掩蓋。

這條獨家是在華郵傳奇性發行人凱薩琳•葛蘭姆（Katharine Graham）執掌公司時發出。

葛蘭姆的父親梅爾（Eugene Meyer）1933年在破產拍賣會上買下華郵，1963年葛蘭姆因夫婿自殺接手公司，此後領導公司30年。

她的領導備受讚譽，執掌公司期間，還帶領華郵在1971年上市，她卸下執行長職位時，股價比剛上市時上漲3成以上。

華郵的調查性報導持續交出漂亮成績單，例如最近針對華特里德（Walter Reed）軍醫院的報導，促使當局檢討伊拉克與阿富汗受傷老兵的治療。

華郵拿過47座普立茲獎，光是2008年就獲6項肯定，不過華郵2009年計畫邀請政治說客和企業領袖付錢到魏茂斯家中作客，與政府官員以及華郵記者交流，原意是要為報社籌資但遭到外界批評，報社形象大傷。

然而此事也凸顯華郵的財務問題。去年華郵虧損5370億美元，為今天貝佐斯意外接手埋下伏筆。（譯者：中央社鄭詩韻）
