無人機在葉門上空出擊，美國反制「基地」恐怖攻擊陰謀的有效手段，就是派出無人機，過去10天就轟炸了5次，一舉除掉葉門境內的基地民兵。葉門國安顧問：「我們發現基地似乎打算針對液化瓦斯廠發起攻擊行動。」

葉門軍方同步配合，化解了基地成員打算攻佔煉油廠和重要港口的圖謀威脅，美國繃緊神經，撤出葉門境內僑民，駐中東和非洲19領使館到周六之前繼續關閉。中東分析家：「如今我們面對的是新一代基地成員，其中許多人身經百戰，經歷過伊拉克戰爭、敘利亞內戰，他們也學習提升炸彈製作技巧。」

現在的基地組織已經不可同日而語，成員年輕化也更敢拚命，這次美國當局大動作因應，就是首度攔截到20多名基地高層透過網路召開了視訊會議。

密謀發動攻擊的是基地在阿拉伯半島的分支AQAP，首腦「烏哈希」曾經擔任賓拉登的私人秘書，2009年AQAP派出內衣炸彈客作案，還好被逮個正著，除了精於製作炸彈，AQAP也擅於網路宣傳。

三不五時公布影音畫面，甚至推出英文版線上雜誌吸收新成員，AQAP早被美國盯上，人數不減反增，從2、3百人增加到上千人。美國眾議員彼德金：「基地組織各方面比起911之前還要強大，因為它變異又擴散。

變異之後的基地組織更難對付，也讓美國從上到下不得安寧。
