中國墮胎女性多不超過25歲，且大部份是大學生。根據中國衛生與計畫生育委員會最新的報告顯示，中國每年墮胎婦女人數超過1千3百萬人，且年輕女性墮胎的比例日增，其中只有1.2%服用避孕藥。但《時代雜誌》報導指出，中國官方的數據忽略了貧困地區有大量的非法或強制墮胎，真正的墮胎人數可能更多。

根據中國衛生與計畫生育委員會最新報告顯示，中國每年墮胎婦女人數超過1千3百萬人，由於缺乏正確性知識和避孕觀念，加上年輕人性觀念日漸開放，年輕女性墮胎的比例愈來愈高，其中許多是25歲以下的女性，而大部份是女大學生。

根據中國世界避孕日公布的調查，超過68%的中國女性不清楚口服避孕藥與事後避孕藥的差別，只有1.2%的女性服用避孕藥，在已開發國家，服用避孕藥的女性高達30%至50%。

根據《時代雜誌》報導指出，全球平均墮胎率為100分之1，根據美國疾病管制局資料顯示，美國2009年有78萬人墮胎，墮胎率是500分之1；中國的實際墮胎率應該更高，但官方數據只調查了醫院和診所的墮胎資料，而忽略貧困地區有大量的非法墮胎和人工流產。

「女權無疆界」組織負責人瑞潔在今年初的一場演說中表示，中國的一胎化政策間接導致大量女嬰被人工流產，沒有准生證的婦女也遭官方逮補並強制流產，這些行為已違反了國際人權公約。

另外，根據一項調查顯示，中國「70後」的男女平均初夜年齡為22.4歲，「80後」是21.3歲，「90後」則是提前到18.2歲。受訪者中有62.1%的人在大學時有初次性經驗，「90後」初夜在大學階段發生的比例則高達72%。
