| 沙國女性力爭開車權 辛苦又漫長

女性開車在絕大多數的國家，都已經是司空見慣的事情，不過在沙烏地阿拉伯，法律雖然沒有禁止，但是多年來，政府就是不發給女性駕照。為了爭取自己開車的權利，在當地時間26號，有幾十位女性開車上街。 沙烏地阿拉伯女性：我現在要去接我姐姐上班，這樣她就不用花時間叫計程車。 這段話對於其他國家女性來說稀鬆平常，但沙烏地阿拉柏的女性要自己開車上路，到現在都得冒著可能被抓去坐牢的危險。 沙烏地實行嚴格的伊斯蘭法律，女人如果沒有男性家屬的允許，就不可能接受高等教育或是選擇結婚對象。至於開車，法律雖然沒有禁止，但多年來政府就是不發駕照給女性，目前有駕照的都是在國外取得。
1990年曾經有幾十位女性開車上街，結果統統遭到逮捕，連護照都被取消。但今年的抗議活動，只有一位參與者被警方攔下，然後要求她把駕駛的位子讓給同車的丈夫。外電報導指出，現任國王阿不都拉從2007年開始推動改革，這次沒有大規模取締，可能就是政府高層授意警方睜一隻眼閉一隻眼。但這又讓保守派十分不滿。 沙烏地民眾 多瑟瑞：如果女生開車可能會遭到騷擾，會讓她們暴露在危險之中，所以我完全反對讓女人開車。 面對根深蒂固的保守勢力，阿不都拉國王的改革開放必須非常小心。針對女權團體呼籲女性開車上街，政府宣示要強力對付破壞公共秩序的人。美聯社認為，這明著是不鼓勵女人開車，暗地裡卻是警告保守派，不要藉機鬧事，騷擾開車的女士們。
