| 老翁殺石虎來吃 引軒然大波幸好只是野貓

苗栗一名養雞戶，由於雞群常遭野貓和石虎攻擊，一隻疑似石虎鑽進鐵籠，張姓養雞農將這隻動物送給七十歲孫姓老翁當野味，結果被鄰居檢舉，警方請專業單位檢視，確定落網的動物是流浪貓而不是石虎。老翁雖然躲過五年以下的重罪，但仍違反動物保護法，將被處以十到五十萬元的罰款。(彭清仁報導)
苗栗市七十歲的孫姓老翁，昨天晚間在宰殺野貓時，因臭味難耐，有民眾看不下去而報警。警方趕抵時，發現大臉盆內有一隻被剝光毛的大貓，老翁被帶回警局，而縣府保育官員也接獲通報來檢視，一度懷疑可能是珍貴稀有的保育類動物石虎，縣府也商請鑽研石虎權威、屏東科技大學博士生陳美汀漏夜檢驗，終於確認這隻被剝光皮毛的只是一般野貓。這也讓老翁鬆了一口氣，至少不必面對五年以下的重罪。儘管如此，苗栗縣動物防疫所長張俊義表示，孫姓老翁仍觸犯動物保護法第12條規定，依法可處十到五十萬元的罰款。
而老翁則是向警方供稱，年輕時在山區工作，時常捉果子狸等野味來吃。昨天下午頭屋鄉張姓雞農，因有野貓或石虎經常攻擊雞群，因此設了鐵籠當陷阱，抓到一隻疑似石虎的動物，知道老翁喜歡吃野味，所以將這隻動物送給老翁，卻不料差點讓老翁吃到貓肉和官司。據屏東科大專家陳美汀表示，檢驗警方查獲動物屍體，發現耳朵較尖，體態和腿的粗細都不像石虎，而且毛髮有不同色塊，種種特徵都與石虎不同，因而認定是一般的野貓。
