明年底7合1大選戰鼓頻催，藍綠「決戰大台中」態勢漸成形。民進黨方面，已確定由立委林佳龍、蔡其昌爭取提名，跨年夜揭曉由誰出馬；國民黨則以現任市長胡志強再披掛戰袍機率最高，最快年底就會揭曉。

因應7合1大選，藍綠開始緊鑼密鼓布局，其中被視為最具指標性的台中市，戰況更是激烈。上次僅以3萬票飲恨的民進黨，以及面臨政權保衛戰的國民黨，雙方都有不能輸的壓力。

民進黨內提名作業，在前祕書長蘇嘉全確定不爭取提名後，將由林佳龍、蔡其昌兩位現任立委角逐，兩人將在12月30日晚間進行以胡志強為假想敵的電話對比式民調，結果會在跨年夜公布。

由於前有雲林縣激烈競爭的選戰熱度加溫，又因台中市被視為民進黨打破南綠北藍界線、揮軍北上的重要灘頭堡，這場初選民調，料將成為這一波初選協調最激烈的一場戰役。黨內人士坦言，兩位角逐者都具一定實力，拖愈久就愈不利選舉整合，因此提名作業愈快愈好。

最後不到2個月的衝刺期，目前聲勢領先的林佳龍將採「保溫不加熱」戰略，除穩固原較具優勢的市區及屯區外，也將一級決勝區鎖定在大豐原地區；海線及山線也分別由地方支持者成立「龍友會」，並與市議員合作，強打基層組織戰。

而起步較晚的蔡其昌，則將以文宣戰替選情升溫，打入舊台中市區、吸引都會選票；此外也將逐區舉辦29場市政說明會、以及大約60場的里民座談會，全力拉抬參選聲勢。林、蔡誰勝出，將是年底提名最吸睛的政治大戲。

相較之下，國民黨的情勢則顯得渾沌未明。除胡志強仍可連任，內政部次長蕭家淇、前內政部長廖了以、立委盧秀燕、蔡錦隆都是熱門人選。

不過，黨內人士指出，因黨中央遲未替胡志強安排下一步，胡再上場的機率也隨之大增，而馬英九日前特地到廖了以家中致意，廖向友人稱無意參選，胡志強再批戰袍的機會大增。
