嘉舊監外牆傾斜 靠木條撐著

創建於日治時期，現為獄政博物館的嘉義舊監獄，因年代久遠，維新路近林森東路的監獄外牆出現嚴重裂縫、傾斜，目前以木條暫時支撐。嘉義市議員蔡永泉抨擊，如不立即整修，不僅危及遊客安全，也影響市容。

嘉義監獄典獄長陳進豐表示，該龜裂圍牆內為嘉義舊監宿舍，並非古蹟範疇。目前舊宿舍連同圍牆擬拆除做為停車場，已將預算需求呈報給法務部，正由行政院審查中，若順利通過，預計明年動工。

陳進豐說，該圍牆3年前就因地震出現裂痕，今年夏天雨水豐沛，常下暴雨，龜裂情形更嚴重。經建築師評估，先以木條支撐牆面，若傾斜情況加劇，會先自籌經費拆除。

1922年啟用的嘉義舊監獄，是原地保存的賓夕凡尼亞式監獄建築，也是台灣唯一完整保存的日治時期監獄，94年由內政部公告為國定古蹟，民國百年整修完工後改為獄政博物館。教育部青年發展署設置全台41個青年壯遊點，獄政博物館為其中之一。
