美國總統歐巴馬正在非洲進行訪問，即將抵達南非。原本歐巴馬希望能會見他心目中的英雄，打破南非種族隔離的南非前總統曼德拉。但曼德拉病情惡化，歐巴馬今天在飛往南非的空軍一號專機上說，他最不希望的就是打擾到曼德拉與家屬的相處時間，「我不需要特地過去，只為了拍張照片」。

當日，紐約商業交易所(nymex)下屬商品交易所(comex)8月份交割的黃金期貨價格下跌18.20美元，報收於每盎司1211.60美元，跌幅為1.5%。
