金融海嘯引發的大衰退已結束4年，如今美國成屋銷售重回2009年6月榮景、失業率也從當時的9.5%降至如今的7.4%，然而美國家戶收入卻仍未見提升，美國夢成了遙不可及的空想。
Daily Ticker和美聯社報導，數據分析公司Sentier Research報告顯示，經通膨調整後，6月份美國家戶年度所得的中位數為52,100美元，比2009年12月時低了4.4%。若和2007年12月大衰退開始時相較，家庭年收入的中位數更減少了6.1%。
報告顯示，除了65-74歲的高齡者之外，幾乎所有族群的所得都不及4年前。對許多美國民眾而言，不只收入停滯，購買力和生活水準也隨之下滑。Yahoo! Finance的Rick Newman指出，又有新研究證實許多人心知肚明的事實：日子越來越難過，要繳帳單更不容易了。

22日開幕的薄熙來「世紀大審」，國際媒體一致認為微博直播是中共法院首例，報導並突出薄熙來精神抖擻大翻供，但幾乎所有評論都強調有限的直播不是直正的公開透明，薄熙來的神勇自辯也不證明中共司法是真正的due process(正當程序)。這場審判，過程有變化，本質仍舊貫：一個show。
美聯社評論，薄案透露中共貪腐聚斂與高層宗派內鬥之不堪，法院直播這場政治大審，必經中共高層准許，這表表示黨對「損害控制」有相當的信心。
即使有限的公開和透明 (微博只播片斷、國際媒體不能旁聽)，也有其風險，但這是「經過計算的風險」。國際報導幾乎全都確定，本案一如中共向來所有高層人物的案子，未審先判，結果已定，連薄熙來當庭的表現，許多報導以surprising(令人驚訝)形容之餘，也懷疑事出必有因。CNN評說，薄熙來否認罪名，「無法立刻看清是出人意表的發展」。
BBC引述英國諾丁罕大學中國政治研究所所長曾銳生的看法，說本案尚未判決，「難以想像」，這不是中共政治局會留給法官自行定奪的案子。
《紐約時報》說，薄熙來努力演出，但「中國的法院由中國共產黨控制，刑案被告極少勝訴，政治被告則從無勝訴之例」。
美聯社引述香港科技大學政治系教授丁學良的話說，22日的審判非常像套好招的武術表演，你攻他的臉，他踼你的背，終場沒人重傷。
《華盛頓郵報》報導，政治分析家和中共內部許多人相信，審判結果如何，黨和薄已有共識：薄可以當庭盡情演出，黨已有既定決策。
紐時指出，中共開審判過程社群媒體直播的首例，顯示網路今天對政治的重要。中共可能想藉直播薄案，收攬對黨營媒體不滿的人心。
