我的朋友在進行一個工作，他的老闆有男有女。男老闆就條列式地開出他要哪些元素；女老闆則希望他多做些不同的發想，以供比較。在這個過程裡，他說女老闆的要求讓他多想了很多，學了不少。很有意思，這是個性上的差異，還是性別間的不同呢？

我想到一件事，那就是男女看待購物，有很大的不同。

對大多數男人來說，購物不是一個活動，而是一個解決問題的過程。當他需要一件出席某場合穿的衣服，購物便是解決之道，最好速戰速決。甚至有很多男人，一身從上到下、從裡到外，都由太太或女友包辦。

常在男裝店看到男人買東西，我總覺得有一類型的男人，應該是銷售員心中的小甜心。比如那天在Armani看到一個阿伯買衣服，本來只是看件褲子，店員以「比較搭配」的理由勸客人換上整套，然後他上衣換了外套換了，鞋子也換了。最後決定把試穿過的統統買下，還買同款不同色，這樣他就短時間不用再來買衣服了。不過如果是我的話，名牌鞋的品牌那麼多，應該怎麼挑也不會挑到Armani才對。

我想到我的女性朋友大多是這樣的：比如我陪朋友去Chanel買東西，她試了幾件外套，店員也用一樣的銷售技巧，勸她換上整套（比如加上裙子再加鞋），但她對於這些外套在什麼場合派上用場，有很清楚的想法，鞋子她覺得哪個牌子是好的便到哪家去，這家有好配件，那家的牛仔褲最合自己的身形……更重要的，個人穿搭習慣的養成不是一朝一夕，而是經年累月逛街，把這事當成一個消遣，才能累積如此多的資訊。

那天跟著她狂逛四小時，我想起花木蘭果然是女人，因為她東市買駿馬，西市買鞍韉，南市買轡頭，北市買長鞭。雖說寫這四句大約是為了篇幅和諧韻，但我總想著賣這四樣東西的店，應該會開在一起。

喜歡購物的人會覺得身上的東西都是精挑細選，很得意；在同一家買齊所有東西的人則認為，既然該店有一定品質，更寶貴的，是時間。不同的價值觀帶出不同的行為模式，很有意思。
