以手機應用程式（APP）判斷癌症要小心。科羅拉多大學皮膚醫學教授羅伯特·達拉維爾研究團隊表示，雖然疑似皮膚癌病灶可由患者拍下照片上傳，由開發應用程式廠商合作的醫師「初步判斷」，但只依賴這類程式有風險，這些程式整體準確約三、四成。
羅伯特·達拉維爾團隊表示，以一八八張皮膚癌病灶圖測試四款宣稱可初步判斷皮膚癌的相關APP，發現這些程式平均準確率在三成五至四成二之間，不過有些程式仍有一定的準確性，例如一款程式在判斷五十三例皮膚黑色素瘤圖片時，只錯失一例，主要原因是該程式判斷皮膚癌的幕後技術團隊為合格皮膚科醫師。
準確率較高應用程式大都提供患者自行上傳皮膚病灶圖片，再由特約皮膚科醫師判斷的服務。如果不是專業醫師提供判斷依據，準確率堪慮。在眾多應用程式中，部分提供程式判斷資訊的人未必具專科醫師資格。
密蘇里大學皮膚醫學教授卡蘭·艾帝森表示，這類程式如果有良好品質，維護患者安全，未來仍有使用及應用空間，但患者如果獲得一些初步資訊，而需要更多醫療介入時，他們是否進一步尋求實際面對面的診斷與治療，還是僅依賴一些初步資訊決定下一步，值得思考。
皮膚科醫師提醒，地球大氣臭氧層已有缺口，地表紫外線投射量增加，過度暴露於紫外線，除容易造成皮膚曬傷、曬黑、皮膚老化問題外，也增加皮膚癌罹患機率，適度防曬仍有必要。
