塑化劑、毒澱粉、過期原料、胖達人連發生的食品安全事件，讓民眾對市售加工食品失去信心，通路業者指出，麵包機、豆漿機、果汁機、氣炸鍋等家電產品日益受歡迎，很多人是全家大小一起到店裡詢問購買，銷售量與比去年同期成長逾倍。

手作風正熱，風潮延燒到出版界。手作書銷售逆勢上揚，比一般書籍更暢銷，業績至少成長一至兩成。

燦坤3C公關李佩璇表示，從4月開始，許多父母帶著小孩前往門市，詢問購買手作相關的小家電，各家電商推出的手作新產品也多，銷售量比去年同期成長1.5倍。國產DIY家電產品因價格親民，銷售量高於進口商品，進口商品的營業額也穩定成長。

類似熱銷潮也出現在網購上，業者指出，網購這類產品的以女性較多，主要偏向國產商品，在網路上買常能便宜5%至10%，不用到賣場「扛」商品回家，深受年輕族群喜愛，今年5到6月網站的氣炸鍋常缺貨，8月胖達人事件發生以後，麵包機就常缺貨，且以中低價位機種最缺貨。

通路門市人員分析，新婚夫妻、有發育期孩童的家庭對健康格外注重，成了這類手做食材產品的消費主力。全國電子的銷量也比去年同期成長5成，也由於手做食材風潮，全國電子也順勢推出麵包機、豆漿機、果汁機、氣炸鍋的促銷優惠。

麥浩斯出版行銷企劃王婉瑜表示，胖達人事件後，很多人想要自己動手試試看，至少自己動手做，食材、製造過程看得見，比較安心，因此這類書籍賣得特別好，業績至少成長一到兩成。

馬可孛羅文化行銷企劃林泓伸也表示，手作風應該追溯至二年前的塑化劑風暴開始，除了手作書以外，包括如何吃比較健康、食譜、探討食安問題的書籍，都會吸引讀者目光。

【賴宇萍╱綜合外電報導】美國財政僵局持續，就在許多公務員被迫放無薪假之際，媒體爆料，美國國務院竟趕在政府關門前幾小時，敲定了一筆高達500萬美元（約1.5億元台幣）訂單，為美國駐外大使館訂購手工水晶酒杯。

據英國《每日郵報》報導，美國國務院在9月30日，與佛蒙特州玻璃製品公司SIMON PEARCE敲定了價值達500萬美元的合約，為美國駐全球各地的大使館訂製20種不同款式、共計1萬2000多個手工水晶酒杯與吧台用品。

急著趕在美國政府關門前花大錢的單位，當然不會只有美國國務院。據美國《華盛頓郵報》報導，美國退伍軍人事務部花了56.2萬美元（1661萬元台幣）購買藝術品，美國海岸防衛隊花了17.8萬美元（526萬元台幣）修繕辦公室家具，美國農業部更在1天內花了14.4萬美元（425萬元台幣）購買碳粉匣。
